All NUSA Design products are handmade to retain the art of craftsmanship and to translate this into our products. This is how each product is unique, all in their very own way. The materials we use for our products are natural and raw, which means that the leather and suede come with character to it. We use the best parts of the materials and there may be a perfect imperfection of a tiny mark from nature in there, but nothing we don’t like to see on our products.
NUSA DESIGN LEATHER PRODUCTS
Every product in our leather collection is made from strong and supple cow leather. The leather has not been treated with any form of coating or protecting layer. This is to preserve the natural and raw feel of the products. That is how we love the look of our NUSA Design leather products the best. If you let nature take its course the leather will get that nice burnished effect.
Without treating the leather, liquid spots will show. From our experience they dry up very quick and won’t leave too much of a stain, in our opinion it will only look better ones the leather has that weathered look.
Smoother leather
If you want your leather product to have a smoother finish and a bit more shine to it, we recommend you to treat the leather with a special leather product, about every 2 to 3 months. For example Collonil leather cream, a high nourishing cream for smooth leather and a gentle shine. Within home remedies it is also possible to use a thick body cream of body butter. Using this on the products will give a bit more dark and equal look.
Soaking it up
To keep the your leather product in good condition and the leather supple, we recommend using a special leather conditioning cream, like Collinil leather cream or a regular moisturizer such as body cream even works. Please note this will bring a light sheen to the leather. Before rubbing it gently onto the leather we advise to test it first on a little piece of leather in an inconspicuous corner as it can sometimes change the colour of the leather. For an extra intense treatment you can use different oils, like mink or neat’s-foot oil. After applying the oil let it rest for 10 minutes and wipe it off with a dry cloth. Than let it dry naturally until the oil is fully absorbed into the leather.
Leather damage control
Before you take your leather product out into the world and if you want the leather not to be lived too much, we recommend applying a special protection layer to it. This in order to minimize the influence of water and other things your product might come into contact with. However, like any good quality leather item, leather will wear and stain over time, giving it a true authentic and vintage look. The most resistant treatment you can give leather products, is beeswax. Beeswax has a thick consistency; therefore we recommend thoroughly blending the product into the material. But please test the beeswax first on a little piece of leather in an inconspicuous corner as it can change the colour of the leather. A total invisible and more breathable way to treat your NUSA product is to spray a protection layer on the leather goods, like Collinil leather spray, which is virtually invisible but will protect your leather goods from damaging.
Leather liquid treatment
Please note that all leather products are never 100% waterproof. Leather soaks up some liquid due to the texture of the material, whether treated or un-treaded with a special leather product. If your leather product gets caught in the rain or soaked from another liquid, let it dry slowly and naturally. If you speed the drying process it will cause the leather to crinkle and possibly to leave a stain. When wet, rest your leather product in the shape you want it to dry to prevent unwanted shapes in the leather.
Leather stains away
Don’t give up if your leather product gets stained anyway. In general there are two ways to remove stains from leather. You can either use a special leather cleaning product and follow the instructions of the cleanser or just use a damp cloth and dab it on the stain. Do not use too much water and don’t use any soap as this will leave stains on the leather on its own. What sometimes also works with water stains after they have dried up, is to rub some leather cream or body lotion on the stain until it all gets an equal color all around it.
NUSA DESIGN SUEDE PRODUCTS
All suede NUSA products are made from strong and supple cow suede. The suede has not been treated with any form of coating or protecting layer. This is to preserve the natural and raw feel of the products. That is how we love the look of our suede NUSA Design products the best. If you let nature take its course the suede will get a slightly rougher and a bit darker colour.
Without treating the suede, liquid spots will show. From our experience they dry up very quick and won’t leave to much of a stain, in our opinion it will only look better ones the suede has that weathered look.
Smoother suede
If you want your suede product to have a smoother finish and clean look to it, we recommend you to treat the suede with a special suede product, like Collonil Suède (+ Nubuck) spray for all colours. It protects the suede and it activates the colour of the material at the same time.
Brush it up
If you find your suede product looking a little dull over time, rub it with a clean terry towel or toothbrush/suede brush to bring the material back to life. If the suede of your product looks very worn down after a long time, hold the suede over the steam of boiling water, but not too close, for a few seconds and brush it afterwards with a clean terry towel or toothbrush/suede brush. Never rub the suede too hard though, because this will damage the material as it rubs of all the ‘hairy’ suede structure of the material.
Suede damage control
Suede is always permeable and cannot be made 100% waterproof. Suede protective sprays, like Collonil Suède (+ Nubuck) spray, creates a sealant that will last for a few months to help repel dirt and stop stains from getting onto the suede. You will get the best protection by lightly brushing the suede with a towel or toothbruch/suede brush before and after spraying your suede NUSA product. This in order to minimize the influence of water and other things your product might come into contact with. However, like any good quality suede item, suede will wear and stain over time, giving it a true authentic and vintage look.
Suede liquid treatment
Talcum powder and corn meal are the best to apply if your suede product has suffered from a liquid spill. First pat the liquid with a clean towel and apply a layer of talcum powder or corn meal over the spill. Let it rest overnight and carefully remove the talcum powder or corn meal the next day. Do not rub it in the material too much, but to lightly brush it off with a towel. Best is not to treat suede with water as this will affect the colour and texture of the material.
Suede stains away
Don’t give up if your suede product gets stained anyway. You can rub the dirt off the suede with a towel or a toothbrush/suede brush. For heavier stains, continue lightly rubbing the stain using a towel with a little bit of white vinegar on it. Repeat treating the stain as many times as necessary. If you’ll have to use water anyway, do not use too much water and don’t use any soap as this will leave stains on the suede on its own.
